Sometime year 1994, the Benguet Electric Cooperative, Inc. (BENECO) in its desire to bring closer its services to the member-consumers at the far-lung areas in Benguet decided to establish an office situated at Bekes Abatan, Buguias, Benguet to serve the Municipalities of Mankayan, Buguias, Bakun, Sayangan, Atok and parts of Kibungan, Benguet.
The main purpose of this office is primarily responsible for seeing to the effective performance with respect to the Technical Operations, Billing/Collection, Meter Reading, Application for Service Connection, and Institutional Activities.
For more than four (4) years of renting an office, BENECO management decided to construct a six (6) storey building to cater the 39 workforce comprising the office base, linemen, meter readers and teller to serve those more than 16 thousand member-consumers.
To maximize the operation of the said building, the BENECO Board and Management decided to utilize the 2nd and 3rd floor as a venue for a Technical Vocational School (TECHVOC) and to offer short courses/programs as part of its CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROGRAM (CSRP).
The TECHVOC was established and inaugurated on February 25, 2011 as an extended Training Center of TESDA Regional Office offering Electrical Installation and Maintenance Course (EIM NC-II) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW NC-II). Since then, it has been conducting series of classes and actual training for the people of Baguio City and the Municipalities of Benguet at no cost to the students.
Considering the impact to its member-consumers, The Beneco Board then passed Res. No. 24B-2011 approving the registration of the Training Center with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to offer such short courses.
On December 12, 2011, TESDA CAR approved the Certificate of TVET Program Registration No. WTR 1115032063 granted to the TECHVOC which was name as BENECO SKILLS DEVELOPMENT TRAINING CENTER (BSDTC) and to officially offer the above courses/programs.
At the end of year 2012, a total of 243 graduated from the Training Center comprising of 61 who graduated for SMAW and 182 who graduated for EIM courses. All those who graduated passed the assessment conducted by TESDA.
The main OBJECTIVE of the Training Center is to cater to the children of BENECO member-consumers who has less in life and who can not afford to send their children in college.
We aim to be a model training center of excellence, developing highly skilled and employable graduates.
As part of our Social Responsibility Program, we will extend our services by way of developing the skills of those we serve in accordance with quality Technical-Vocational Standards.
